Zip, zero, Nada…How about naming a current movement in the US that is behaving this way…
Before we get down to it, the truth is history is replete with movements that have behaved this way. And though their paths may have originally been paved with good intentions, they all ended in death, misery, and oppression. This behavior can never be a winning strategy.
It should be obvious that you have a problem if you need a weapon to win an argument of ideas. If your ideas are so weak that censorship or violence must answer any challenge — your ideas are bankrupt. It should be obvious, and yet bankrupt ideas are a dime-a-dozen. For example, dividing people by race to end racism, burning the entirety of mammalian biology to appease a minuscule subset of people whose existence is defined only by a diagnosed mental disorder, or reinstituting communist street gangs of pre-WWII Europe — the logic defies all reality…you should work on a new argument.
It’s never partisan if it’s true.
What kicked off this article is a strange rise in baseless accusations, that I’ve noticed, regarding Trump supporters preparing to start a new Civil War when he loses the election. It is all so inauthentic. And yet I see it coming up in interviews, in the echo chambers of social media, and in message balloons floating through the news cycle. This curious phenomenon — the accusation that the right is preparing for violence come Election Day is nothing short of Kafka-esque. I suppose “War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.” is not far behind. Not even Orwell would have predicted this level of sycophancy.
Side note: we have a problem with nuance and a mentality of “with me or my mortal enemy”, so let me do some housekeeping — I’m not a Trump “fan”, I dislike him biggly. What I am a “fan” of is the truth and of speaking truth to power. I regularly criticize officials of both parties. It is an undeniable aspect of our system that we must have more than one healthy and viable group putting forth candidates for election while holding one another accountable. Iron sharpens iron. Unfortunately, both parties are broken — though in fundamentally different ways.
This inauthentic gaslighting of the right on violence irks me. If you have at least one eye it should be clear, that when it comes to violence, in thought and action, the left has been infected by a new and revised concept of the communist utopia. Because of this, it has adopted a suicide strategy of subversion and chaos to metastasize its plans. One must only look to our university system to find published works fleshing out their stated goal; to topple our American system of governance by undermining trust in foundational institutions and fomenting division and distrust amongst the citizenry.
Funny that the people who hate America the most are Americans.
So the left is raising the alarm about election violence coming from the right, but…
Q) Which political party currently has racked at least 2 assassination attempts on its rival candidate?
A) The Democrats.
Q) Which party not only has racked at least 2 assassination attempts on its rival candidate but also regularly engages in violent riots on college campuses and major cities?
A) The Democrats
Q) Which party not only has racked at least 2 assassination attempts on its rival candidate, regularly engages in violent riots on college campuses and major cities, and also violently attacks conservatives, with any notoriety, who speak out about conservative principles?
A) The Democrats
Q) What about which party not only has racked at least 2 assassination attempts on its rival candidate, regularly engages in violent riots on college campuses and cities, violently attacks conservatives of notoriety who dare to speak out about conservative principles, and also violently attacked, laid siege to a federal building in Portland for 50 days, causing millions in damage and costing taxpayers tens of millions?
A) The Democrats.
I think you get it. Oh, since the left is lobbing around the term ‘Civil War’— which political party was the ONLY political party of the Confederacy?
The Democrats…
And yet, all I see are preemptive attacks on conservatives and glib accusations about the Civil War. First, anyone making light of 750,000 Americans dead can fuck right off. Second, I cannot find where conservatives have expressed violent tendencies this cycle — It would be the front page of every paper if anyone had. Interestingly, Conservatives own the guns. They are the outdoorsmen, the planters, the hunters, the veterans, and the patriots. They have the means, know-how, and a thin-skinned reactionary leading the party — and yet the right remains peaceful. On the left, the party with a lengthy, well-documented track record of violence continues projecting and saying violence will follow a Trump loss.
The concern trolling is Freudian.
If, as the left claims, Trump’s base is limited to the Confederacy, why is he also dominating the Midwest and Western US? Why is he about to pull 25% + black and Latino voters — higher than any Republican in history? Why is Trump on the precipice of a Reagan-esque electoral beatdown?
Why are the Democrats beating the war drum with such inauthenticity?
The cleverest trick in propaganda is to accuse your enemy of that which you are doing. (a paraphrase from a speech given by Nazi Spin Doctor, Joseph Goebbels)
It should be a wake-up call for traditional Democrats. We are seeing the death throws of a failed and morally bankrupt ideology. And when this election goes for the former President, the left has an opportunity to purge this violent, anti-American cancer from the body politic. There is no life, liberty, and happiness down this path of political violence.
It may be that the protestations and accusations are a prelude to more violent actions from the left, and we should be mindful. However, I believe this election will shift the Overton Window center-right — a more natural position for the US and the evil penny of communism will be tossed away once more into the ash heap of history. If the left cannot shake free, we will see the rise of a new party from the corpse of the Democrats and a realignment of political parties not seen since the birth of the Republican Party
As for the violent rhetoric…let’s hope the left continues to be full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Anyone speaking of violence will end up reaping what they sow.
